You may have seen it in the news: Starting January 1st, 2020, Cook County will likely no longer be eligible for an exemption to the ABAWDS time limit waiver. This means that an estimated 50,000 SNAP recipients known as “ABAWDs” (or Able Bodied Adults Without Dependents) in Cook County will be newly subject to federal work requirements for SNAP, and at risk of losing benefits.
