07/16/2025 01:00 PM - 02:30 PM CT

Description

As we continue our series on the Career Readiness Curriculum, this session will focus on Topic 3, Lesson 1: Resume Fundamentals. In this lesson, we will explore the essential role of a resume in the job search process. Participants will gain a clear understanding of what a resume is, its key components, and why it is a critical tool for showcasing a job seeker's skills, experience, and potential. We’ll also discuss the purpose a resume serves in opening doors to employment opportunities and how to help clients present themselves effectively on paper. Additionally, we’ll highlight strategies for applying your coaching skills throughout this lesson—helping clients reflect on their experiences, identify transferable skills, and build confidence as they prepare or revise their resumes.

OBJECTIVES:

1. Define the purpose and importance of a resume in the job search process and articulate how it supports a candidate’s personal and professional goals.
2. Identify and describe the key components of an effective resume, including contact information, summary or objective statement, work experience, skills, and education.
3. Demonstrate how to guide clients in reflecting on their past experiences and transferable skills to create strong resume content that aligns with their job goals.
4. Apply foundational coaching strategies (such as active listening, asking powerful questions, and giving feedback) to support clients in building or improving their resumes.
